Since 1967, the German Tool Museum
Remscheid, the only museum of its kind in Germany. It houses an extensive technical, social and cultural history collection of tools from various millennia, from the Stone Age to the 21st century.

The collection is of supra-regional significance in terms of craft and industrial history; it includes hand tools, machine tools and power tools.

The tool museum shows the importance of the Remscheid region as an important centre of the German tool industry. It documents the development of tool production, the use of tools and the tool trade and distribution throughout Germany.

Using the xpedeo visitor information system, the museum was able to set up a multimedia guide that leads visitors through the collection in German, English and French. Thanks to the modularity of the software, the content production, which is often complex in museum projects, could be completed very cost-effectively.

In addition to narrator information and extensive image material, some historical film footage showing the exhibits in use can also be seen.

Current developments in the tool industry are also presented in a multimedia format. The highlight of the exhibition is a historical steam engine, which the multimedia guide shows in full operation.

The picture shows the appliance loading cabinet customised for the DWM. Part of our service is the appliance dispensing concept developed for the respective exhibition scenario.

"The system is moving away from just listening and towards lots of images and additional information," explains Gernot Tödt, Chairman of the Friends' Association.
